Urgent warning over Go Plus inflatable hot tubs as products are recalled due to electrified water malfunction scare

Alex ClampA range of inflatable hot tubs sold by Go Plus has been recalled over a malfunction that could electrify the water. The inflatable tub that can hold four to six people has been recalled over concerns within the heating element that poses a ‘serious risk’ of electric shock.
According to the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, the heating element construction has been seen to fail during use. This is a serious threat that then allows the live connection to energise the water when it comes into contact through the insulation. If a circuit is then made between the water and earth, such as the wet ground or a metal object, there’s a high risk of electrical shock.
The product also has no earth connection in the heater and does not meet the Electrical Equipment Regulations 2016 requirements. The risk description on the Chartered Trading Standards Institute states: “This product poses a serious risk of electric shock as the heater element construction may fail during use and can allow the live connection to energise the water due to the ingress through the insulation.
“If a circuit is made between the energised water and earth (wet ground or metal object in contact with earth) there is a risk of electric shock.”
“There is also no protective earth in the appliance and no earth connection to the heater element component. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.”
The hot tub is usually sold on Amazon, but the listing has now been removed. This recall of these cheap inflatable online hot tubs further emphasises WhatSpa?‘s and HTR News‘ buying advice to never buy from strictly online retailers, and that price really isn’t everything.
