Separation with independent strategy
Spafix and Spa Parts Vortex are now under separate ownership and will be operating from different premises as part of a management buyout with an independent strategy to provide future benefits for both companies.
Spa Parts Vortex, appearing as an exhibitor at the record-breaking SPATEX 2024 hosted by the Coventry Building Society Arena from February 6 to 8, has made the decision to streamline its operations and further enhance its commitment to the trade sector with plans to develop new models for the Earth Spas brand. Spafix, which provides a range of breakdown and maintenance services as well as hot tubs to retail customers, was the original member of the Vortex Distribution stable and is now heading forward with its own independent management structure.
Although it transitioned to a trade-only model in 2013, Spa Parts Vortex maintained ownership of Spafix. Now, as part of gaining their independence, the employees of Spafix have acquired the company from its parent company. Since 2020, Spafix has been run almost entirely by its internal management team and this has enabled the staff to learn and master all aspects of the business ahead of the separation initiative.
The management buyout has enabled the long-serving staff members to take advantage of an opportunity to grow the business and take it independently in a new direction. Spafix, which was established in 2007 by Darren Waters, will continue to supply some technical and warranty services to Spa Parts Vortex on a sub-contract basis.
It has been reported that this strategic shift aligns with the core values of Spa Parts Vortex; including a dedication to meeting the unique needs of trade professionals in the industry, to supply goods in a speedy manner, and not to compete with its valued customers.
“I have to say, this day comes with a little feeling of sadness as this is where it all started,” said Spa Parts Vortex Managing Director Darren Waters.
“All those years ago, getting the money together for my first van, racking it out myself with a jigsaw on my driveway. Then the feeling of sheer joy as I picked it up from the sign-writers. There in big bold letters, SPAFIX.
“But, in truth, I held on to this business for much longer than I should have. I was lucky that I had such an amazing bunch of people running it. When every member of the team has served seven years or more, it tells you they loved working for the company and what it stands for. So, I suppose the sentimental value stopped me parting ways sooner.
“This, however, is a new chapter for both businesses. For me personally I am very excited with our plans for Spa Parts Vortex. Moving to new premises, new software and infrastructure, recruiting at a time when others may be cutting back. A program to drive product development and growth of our product portfolio.
“We’re developing new models in our Earth Spas line up and plans are underway to open in a new territory.
“I’m thrilled for the team at Spafix, they’ve earned this opportunity and I wish them every success for the future.”
