Reaping energy efficiency rewards

A hot tub holiday business in East Yorkshire is promoting an eco-friendly status to prospective customers after reducing its carbon footprint with a new heat pump installation project that cuts electricity bills and enhances sustainability.

Wold Escapes near Driffield is highlighting the fact that it is reaping the financial benefits after the installation of seven Logic Air heat pumps from Hull-based Ideal Heating, which are now ensuring low-carbon energy for cabin accommodation with hot tubs. As part of the installation process, Ideal Heating teamed up with Finesse Plumbing & Heating Engineers in Cranswick.to create the specialist heating solution result that has not only enhanced energy efficiency, and reduced the environmental impact, but has also improved guest experience

“We’ve already installed solar panels on the roof of our main building, so adding heat pumps is another step forward to becoming a more sustainable business,” divulged Wold Escapes Manager Georgina Renfrew.

“If we want to keep growing and expanding, we cannot afford to increase our carbon footprint. We need to continue to take pro-active steps to reduce our environmental impact.

“We now have Ideal air source heat pumps installed at each of the glamping cabins, which not only power the inside of the cabin, but also the hot tub. It’s proven much faster to heat the hot tubs and is a real game-changer for us.

Wold Escapes, which is owned by the Rymer family, has now become the latest advocate of heat pump technology after gaining a hot reception from customers for its heat pump efficiency after receiving a business boost last year by being named ‘Remarkable Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year’ at the 2024 REYTAs.

In tandem with the seven glamping cabins, Wold Escapes runs a bed and breakfast service, a self-catering farmhouse, along with the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery school, which has been running successfully for over ten years and winning several awards along the way. The cookery school has numerous highly acclaimed guest chefs who are all specialists in their own area including Eddie Scott, who was the Masterchef winner of 2022

Georgina has reported that the installation of the heat pumps for the cabins and hot tubs is already making an impact with customers as many are environmentally conscious; and revealed that they enjoy walking and cycling during their hot tub holiday breaks.

“This environmentally conscious upgrade has allowed us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint whilst also enhancing the experience for our guests,” revealed Georgina.

“Not only are these heat pumps far more energy-efficient than traditional heating methods, but they also ensure our hot tubs heat up faster and more reliably.  This means we can clean our hot tubs and get them heated up in time for guests checking in that very same day.

“The cabins stay toasty warm, even when its freezing cold outside, and there’s plenty of hot water for the ensuite showers. The heat pumps consume roughly one-third of the electricity of the previous system, meaning our carbon footprint continues to shrink while we benefit from a more reliable energy source.”

“Our mission is to offer our guests an unforgettable, eco-friendly escape surrounded by the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds.”

Hot tub dealerships, such as Tuff Spas distributor 1 Stop Spas, have been promoting the benefits of installing air source heat pump technology with eco-friendly hot tubs, including the 2025 WhatSpa? Holiday Park Best Buy Award-winning Tuff Spas TT450 model that is heat pump ready as standard, to holiday parks and holiday let businesses; and have been highlighting their cutting-edge products and services to prospective customers in the 2025 edition of WhatSpa? Holiday Park magazine.

The latest recipients of the 2025 WhatSpa? Holiday Park Air Source Heat Pumps Best Buy Awards are also helping hot tub holiday companies to radically reduce their running costs. These include the Energi Air Source Heat Pump 8kW, supplied by Aqua Warehouse Group; Zealux Inverboost 11kW UX, supplied by Clean Heat Leisure; Aquark AquaIntel Heat Pump 7kW, supplied by Superior Wellness; iNHEAT SpaLine 7kW, supplied by Oasis Outdoor Living; EcoSpa Heat 9kW supplied by RotoSpa; and the SpaNet SV Series 8 8kW supplied by Spa Solutions.

Wold Escapes, pictured, has now not only gained financial benefits from the installation of its new heat pumps, but is also delighted to be providing future guests with an eco-friendly hot tub holiday experience.

“We’re proud of this latest investment in air source heat pumps which is a huge step forward in becoming a truly eco-friendly glamping retreat in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds,” declared Georgina.

“Our mission is to offer our guests an unforgettable, eco-friendly escape surrounded by the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds.”

Meanwhile, a £60million investment programme has been transforming Ideal Heating’s Hull facilities. The company, which was the 2024 recipient of the ‘Large Business of the Year’ and ‘Environmental & Sustainability Award’ at the inaugural Hull and East Yorkshire Business Awards ceremony at the end of last year, will now be gaining the benefits of expanded production and logistics capabilities, as well as a cutting-edge research and development centre; while government funding is also helping to accelerate heat pump production.

“Heat pump installation rates are growing rapidly and we’re committed to leading the way in this field, while setting a new standard for the wraparound package of product, warranty, service and support for heat pumps in the UK,” declared Ideal Heating’s Managing Director (Domestic) Mark Derbyshire.

Ideal Heating has also boosted its proposition to the Scottish market with the recent opening of a new, dedicated training centre near Edinburgh. The facility, in Dalgety Bay, will provide installers in Scotland with easy access to industry-leading courses delivered by Ideal’s Expert Academy training arm.

With capacity to train up to 2,000 installers every year, the new training facility is strategically located to be easily accessible to installers across central Scotland, with Glasgow, Dundee and Perth all within a 50-mile radius.

“As the industry moves towards low carbon heating solutions, it was important for Ideal to have a strong presence in Scotland, and to take installers on that training journey from boilers to heat pumps,” reported Mark.
